Caring and Testing Hair
Hey, beauties!
Today, I want to tell you how to care for your gorgeous raw hair bundles that just arrived to you. These bundles are absolutely stunning, and with the right care, they’ll last you for years to come. Whether you’re rocking a weave, wig, or extensions, treating your raw hair bundles just like your natural hair is key to keeping them looking flawless.
Step 1: Choose the Right Shampoo (Sulfate-Free Formula) Using a sulfate-free shampoo is essential for maintaining the quality of raw hair extensions. Sulfates can strip the hair of natural oils, leading to dryness, tangling, and damage. A gentle, moisturizing, or hydrating shampoo will help preserve the hair’s softness and shine. When choosing a shampoo, check the label for “sulfate-free” or avoid ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). The goal is to keep your extensions well-hydrated and healthy—just like your natural hair!
Step 2: Detangle and Prep Before washing, always check for tangles. If needed, gently detangle using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends and working your way up. This simple step helps prevent shedding and breakage, ensuring your extensions stay flawless and tangle-free.
Step 3: Wash with Care If you’re new to washing raw hair extensions, wash one bundle at a time for better control. Start by thoroughly wetting the hair with lukewarm water, then apply a small amount of shampoo, working it gently through the strands with your fingers. Don’t forget the wefts! Lathering the weft area is essential for keeping your extensions clean and long-lasting. Pro Tip: If your shampoo lathers easily with minimal product, that’s a sign the hair isn’t too dirty!
Step 4: Condition and Treat After shampooing, apply a moisturizing conditioner to keep the hair soft and manageable. Use your fingers to distribute the product evenly, ensuring every strand gets nourished. For extra hydration, place the conditioned bundles in a plastic bag (optional) to create a makeshift hot oil treatment. When rinsing, always use cold water to seal the cuticles—this helps retain moisture, enhance shine, and prevent frizz.
Step 5: Air Dry for Best Results Avoid blow-drying your bundles if possible. Instead, let them air dry naturally by laying them flat on a towel for 12-16 hours. The result? Silky, smooth, and ready-to-style extensions that maintain their luxurious quality!
**Ensure your water remains clear before adding shampoo to avoid any confusion. Keep in mind that Isoplus Neutralizing Shampoo may change the water color due to its pigmentation. Please be mindful.
Burn test:
Light a small section of hair with a lighter Observe the reaction Natural hair burns slowly, emits white smoke, and leaves gray ash Synthetic hair melts into clumps, emits black smoke, and has a strong odor.
Texture test:
Run your fingers through the hair to feel for wave or curl patterns Raw hair has natural imperfections and an uneven texture Processed hair has a uniform texture
Then the Bleach Test!
Raw hair can be dyed to achieve #613 shade, but we STRONGLY recommend seeking a professional to avoid damage, maintain hair quality, and achieve the best results. Raw hair takes longer to process and could need 2 lifting session to achieve #613.
Important points to remember:
Slight discoloration is normal: A very faint brown tint in the water is usually a good sign of raw hair and white suds from shampooing.
